The Yeoman

This Yeoman wore a coat and hood of green,

And peacock feathered arrows bright and keen.

His arrows never drooped their feathers low –

And in his hands he bore a mighty bow.

He was a proper forester I guess.

The Yeoman, servant to the Knight, always seems to us to be one of the characters Chaucer actually liked.  A real man with a real job, ready to defend and follow his master – The Knight- at any cost.

The detail in this figure is extremely important to show his action character; his sword, bow & arrows and his shield are all carefully delineated against his soft green tunic and russet leather head gear.  Note too, that unlike all the other Pilgrims he is riding in leather gauntlets.
