Half of each figure depicts a “normal” Ram, Boar & Bull, while the other half is painstakingly hand-painted to reveal classic English Butcher’s cuts. And yes we checked them with a Smithfield Butcher!

The hand-painted lettering on these takes ages to do and is made even harder because you can’t move the figure you’re working on, so you have to twist and turn yourself and your hands to be in a position to be able to paint the letters.

These three figures were born out of a Halloween window display a couple of years ago. We loved the idea so much we didn’t put any on show that year and instead decided to develop and refine the concept.

These may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we think they’re a clever gift idea for the devoted Foodie, Farmer or Cook in your life and what better present to take to a BBQ!

These tiny things of beauty are hand-made using an enormous Edwardian shaping machine and then decorated by our skilled team using freehand brushwork.

At just over 5cm tall & 5cm wide the small size makes them particularly tricky to paint.

The team typically place them on a series of wooden blocks to get them as high up as they can. They are then pulled to the very edge of the block to allow the stripe to be painted right to the bottom.

Featuring spring-like Flamingo Pink, Sun Yellow and Blue Green these pintrays are carefully hand made and then decorated using freehand brushwork with a gentle but intricate top layer of Sgraffito.

Displayed here with Cadbury’s Mini Eggs, these are a good size for things like olives or butter and also make a great spoon rest or trinket dish.

Come to think of it even used teabags would look pretty using this on the worktop!

A classic pair for us now with a new textured white coat as part of our All White collection.

The All White pair uses a technique called “Sgrafitto” creating a pattern called Tracery that we’ve traditionally used on homewares. The glaze is delicately scratched through giving the sheep a textured coat that makes you want to stroke it. The Ram and Ewe are finished off with a soft brown sponged face with black detailing and hooves.

The figures were originally modelled for Rye Pottery by our long-term collaborator and renowned sculptor and ceramicist, Tony Bennett.

The faces of this ceramic figure are predominantly a soft brown, decorated by hand using freehand brushwork & careful sponging. But the main white bodies of the two sheep are textured, using a technique known as Sgraffito. This accentuates the soft, curved shape of the figure, giving the glaze a texture that makes you want to stroke the Mother.

And we reckon she deserves a stroke having just produced that little fella.

Also available in London Stone with a Leaf Green base, this handmade piece is a good choice for a Mother’s Day Gift and adds a subtle touch of the English Countryside to any interiors scheme.

As with many of our figures these elegant Chickens are hand-made using traditional slip-casting methods before being decorated individually by hand using freehand brushwork and delicate sponging. These make a lovely countryside addition to any home at any time of year but they are particularly charming as Easter decorations or as a centrepiece for a springtime dining table.
