The Cook
They had a Cook with them who stood alone
For boiling chicken with a marrow bone,
But what a pity – so it seemed to me,
That he should have an ulcer on his knee.
The Cook is a particularly good example of the timeless quality of Geoffrey Chaucer’s writing: it ‘s perhaps easy to imagine today’s Health & Safety squads bearing down on him with the open running abscess on his thigh – while working in his kitchen!
Our decorators particularly enjoy painting the open sore on his leg, always making sure it is not masked by his russet apron!
